River & Douro

Six bridges on the Douro by rabelo

A fifty-minute rabelo cruise between Porto and Gaia: six bridges overhead, both banks in view.

From the water, Porto’s steep streets make sense: the Gaia lodges face the old city, and each bridge marks a different chapter in how the two banks grew together.

We arrange places on a traditional-style rabelo along the classic six-bridges route. Multilingual audio covers the essentials; the open deck leaves room for river air and photographs. Departures are confirmed on request.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is this an original cargo rabelo?

The vessel follows the traditional rabelo silhouette but is adapted and certified for modern passenger service.

Will I get seasick?

The Douro through Porto is usually calm and the cruise is short. If you are sensitive to motion, choose a central seat on the lower deck.

Does the boat run in rain?

Yes, in normal rain, with sheltered seating available. Departures can be delayed or cancelled when river authorities consider conditions unsafe.

“The rabelo cruise was a lovely way to see Porto from the water. The guide shared stories about the bridges and the old port trade that made the experience feel much richer than a standard boat tour. A calm, beautiful morning.”
